Interview with our colleague Roman: “Working with people is a big part of my job”

  • 23.10.2023

We conducted an interview with our colleague Roman, in which he revealed that a big part of his job in IT is working with people.

IT specialists, problem solvers, people experts: our colleagues in Corporate IT take on many roles. Roman is one of them and answered our questions to tell us that there is one thing you should like most in IT: Contact with people.

In addition to his day-to-day tasks, which include coordinating and being responsible for first level support, but also working on projects that most recently involved introducing Office 365 across the Group, for example, our colleague Roman recently completed his IHK training certificate so that he can now provide our trainees in internal IT with the best possible support on their journey.

“In our department, it’s not just technical affinity for hardware and software that is required. Social and interpersonal skills are more important than is usually the case with IT: You need empathy, an open mind and problem-solving skills,” Roman tells us as we ask him about the special features of his job.

Our colleague tells us that within corporate IT, it’s often all about solving colleagues’ problems as quickly as possible. In addition to the ability to act in a solution-oriented manner, it is also important to set priorities and put yourself in the shoes of others.

“My work is also very varied, as we have various departments at SpiraTec and serve customers from a wide range of industries. As a team, we face new challenges every day, which allows us to grow and acquire new knowledge. The structures at SpiraTec allow us to contribute new ideas and solve problems using different approaches.”

He would therefore like to introduce the young colleagues to the diversity of our corporate IT. His work with young people is not only reflected in his role as a trainer: Roman does voluntary youth work once a week at the youth club in a neighboring community in Speyer. Working with computers also plays a role there from time to time when a joint gaming event is on the agenda.
