NAMUR Annual General Meeting 2024 – Successful workshop on orchestration in intralogistics

  • 27.11.2024

At this year’s NAMUR Annual General Meeting, the focus was clearly on the challenges and opportunities of integrating mobile robotics into existing intralogistics systems. Together with Oliver Weigel (BASF), a colleague from NAMUR Working Group 4.19 “Production-related logistics”, Jens Bunert had the honour of leading a well-attended workshop entitled “Orchestration in intralogistics – the key to efficient operation of driverless transport systems”, which highlighted both current developments and possible solutions for the industry.

A key topic was the extension of the Logistics Orchestration Layer (LOL) to include an additional functional module – transport management. This concept allows for increased automation and the seamless integration of different mobile robotic solutions, such as AGVs and AMRs. At the same time, the importance of centralised orchestration was emphasised in order to manage the increasing complexity caused by the large number of manufacturers and types of robots.

A highlight of the discussion was the role of standardisation efforts such as VDA 5050, MTP and M2X, which enable the structured and efficient connection of robots, equipment and intralogistics systems. Not only was it shown how other industries are successfully using these standards, but also the role of standardisation in this area.

The response to the workshop proved once again that our expertise is valued in the industry. Through close cooperation in NAMUR working groups such as AK 4.23 ‘Robotics’, we are actively driving forward the further development of central orchestration and standardisation.
